Relationships
Significant relationships are a mirror for our souls. Nowhere else do we have the opportunity to understand ourselves as deeply as we do in intimate relationships. Within the safety of honest conversations, relationships evoke our longing and fears. Amid tension and strife, relationships can reveal our pettiness or our courage. Relationships inevitably reveal our hearts, whether it is through our avoidance of them, or through our depth and sensitivity to them. Beginning with our biological family, through to our childhood friends, and into our marriage and beyond, it is our relationships that so decisively shape the quality of our lives.
Taking this even further, our capacity to know and experience God is directly related to how we relate to other people (cf. 1 John 4:20). It will not work to say we are open to God’s direction and presence in our lives if then we turn around and refuse to let ourselves be affected by others – if we refuse to let people into our hearts and lives. Relationship is the key to our heart and soul whether we are speaking of our family, friends, or even God.
When this central feature of our lives – relationship – brakes down, whether through the trauma of betrayal or through the simple but profound isolation that can so easily creep into our fast-paced lives, finding the right kind of help is in order. Because our perceptions of ourselves, others, and the world are so deeply shaped by the relationships we hold, it is impossible to get back on track once our relational capacity has been shut down, unless we can find help from a trusted and understanding companion. We at Grace Clinic would like to offer you the kind of companionship that can walk with you through the process of healing and growth that allows for deep and satisfying relationships – ones that can bring life back even into the wounded areas of your heart.
