Personality Disorders
Personality Disorders are psychological conditions that affect a person’s entire personality, rather than being limited to specific problematic issues or circumstances in a person’s life. Personality disorders are long-standing, inflexible patterns of thought, feeling, and behavior that require life-long attention. Someone with a personality disorder often exhibits symptoms in childhood or adolescents, and the disorder typically surfaces in young adulthood. According to American Psychological Association, there are ten diagnosable personality disorders that are divided into three broad categories. The three categories are divided by whether the prominent features of the disorder are primarily emotional/dramatic, fearful, or eccentric. Narcissistic, Paranoid, and Avoidant Personality Disorders are examples of the three respective categories above.
At Grace Clinic we have counselors on staff who have experience helping people who struggle with personality disorders better cope with their lives. The Bible teaches us that it is not only that everyone has an important place in the world, no matter what their limitations, but that God gives special attention to those whose struggle are overwhelming. Moreover, God delights in showing himself and his presence in the lives of those who have had to be humbled through hardship or trouble. If you or someone you know struggles with personality disorder, Grace Clinic would like to help you find the relief and direction needed to handle the demands that a psychological struggle places on a person.
