Marital Problems

Marriage may be the most powerful institution in the world. Its welfare can determine the fate of our family and the course of our children’s life. Nowhere else do we have the privilege and responsibility of being totally committed to another person. Whatever your situation, God is committed to the success of your marriage.

The condition of a marriage determines the health of a family. A marriage rescued from the brink of disaster can do endless good to all those involved. Sadly, many couples come in to counseling when their marriage has been declining for some time and it appears that they are on their last leg. Fruitless arguments and harsh words spoken in the heat of the moment have eroded the foundation of security and respect needed to maintain a healthy marriage.

Do not wait until lingering issues become unbearable problems. Any one of the following signs listed below suggests that marital counseling would be helpful to your marriage. Take a moment to look at the following list and decide whether or not marital counseling is right for you.

  1. Reoccurring arguments that never resolve and are frequent, underlying sources of frustration
  2. Dialogue break-downs, especially in the following three ways:
    • -- Continual criticism replaces communicating one's feeling humbly
    • -- Unmet expectations have mounted so that every new disappointment is devastating
    • -- Silence or withdrawal is used to avoid or control conversation
  3. One or both spouses avoid spending time at home or with family: free-time is spent at work, with friends, or invested in hobbies at the expense of the other spouse
  4. A general irritability or restlessness at home that runs over into other areas of life
  5. Persistent feelings of sexual incompatibility or discontentment

* Please Note: If you are being abused or if you would fear for you safety were you to leave your current relationship please consider calling a woman’s shelter for direction and advise.

"Three things are too wonderful for me, four things I do not comprehend:
The way of an eagle in the air, the way of a snake on a rock,
The way of a ship in the midst of the sea… and the way of a man with a woman."
- Proverbs 30:18-19
