Family Issues
Most psychological or emotional problems find their roots within one’s family of origin. Changing the family’s way of relating to one another is probably the most effective means of helping everyone within the family. After all, in a family, each person’s behavior affects everyone else, and if lasting change is going to be had, everyone will have to go through the hard work of listening and changing for the sake of everyone else.
Family Therapy is especially pertinent when a child is acting out. Often the child’s behavior is a symptom of a larger dynamic within the family. Sometimes a family’s dynamic can appear to works for some of the children, but not for others, and a deep division tales place that leaves bitterness and hurt in its wake. Help with parenting could make a big difference. Or, for a variety of reasons a husband and wife can drift apart, and underneath a seemingly functional family the parents have not maintained a loving relationship with one another. This will inevitably negatively affect the whole family. It can give a conflicting message to one’s children, putting them in the precarious position of having to mediate the tension between mom and dad. For these and a whole host of other reasons, family therapy can be a critical step in restoring the peace and order needed to sustain a loving family.
When parents can create an atmosphere of trust between each other and then invite their children into honest conversations, transformation can take place. However, this first step is often the most difficult, because of all the complicating history that has misshapen people’s perceptions and, often unknowingly, damaged relationships. Grace Clinic would like to help you and your family get back on track.
