Communication
In life, communication is a must. All significant relationships require the ability to communicate well: husbands and wives, parents and children, peers, co-workers, and dating partners. Effective communication leads to greater peace and fulfillment in your relationships, even with God. But poor communication can lead to enormous amounts of stress and turmoil, precisely in the relationships that mean the most to you. The truth is that communication difficulties usually emerge from a lack of awareness of the deeper ways we impact others and the deeper ways that they impact us. This is why a conversation between spouses over an issue that is initially harmless can end in an explosion and hurt feelings.
If you feel stuck in a particular pattern of relating or in a repetitive argument that never resolves, then counseling can be of great help. Counseling can help you grow both in your awareness of the communication patterns you practice with others, and in the motives underlying those patterns. With grace from God, that awareness can bring about repentance and change, which will free you to relate to others in ways that build the relationships you want. It will allow you to love and be loved more freely.
