Group Therapy
Fall Groups 2006
Group therapy offers people the opportunity to interact within the context of a small group. A professional therapist will help the group to function as both a support group and as a sounding board by offering direct feedback. Group therapy brings people together around a particular topic, combining the spontaneity of group conversation with a sense of intimacy and familiarity among group members. Group therapy often becomes an opportunity for people to begin taking new steps with others in a safe environment.

The descent into sexual addiction for a man is a slippery slope of tantalizing promises and insatiable desire, where nothing feels more satisfying and more disappointing all at the same time. Sadly, it's usually only when lives are destroyed or someone is "caught" that the choices made are identified as a problem. But there is hope before the crisis for those who choose to ask for help.
Sexual Addiction can include but is not limited to: pornography, fantasy, and infidelity. This group will explore themes such as the cycle of addiction, shame, and isolation. We will also discuss myths such as: "pornography is just about the sex", "sex outside of marriage is an unforgivable sin", and "nobody struggles with sexual addiction to the level that I do". This 10-week group examines not only the sexual struggle but the legitimate longings and underlying reasons why a man spirals into sexual addiction.

When Thoreau said that men lead lives of quiet desperation, few can tell this story better than survivors of sexual abuse. The shame and guilt that plague a survivor of sexual abuse tend to dictate how a woman sees herself and how she engages her world, often without her awareness that something from so long ago could still control her life.
But this is not the end of the story. While the path toward healing from sexual abuse is painful at times, it honors the survivor in ways that simply covering the scars (and moving on) can never touch. If you have experienced sexual abuse and are ready to see what healing you can experience, please join us in the fall for this 12-week group. We will follow the material from Dan Allender’s The Wounded Heart book and workbook.

Group therapy is a powerful and necessary tool when it comes to recovering from Anorexia or Bulimia. When engaged in group therapy, a woman experiences a freedom from the shame that struggling in isolation perpetuates. This group is designed to augment your current individual therapy. Topics addressed will include: body image, expressive arts, boundaries, assertiveness, stress management, and relapse prevention.

Do you experience times at home or at work when you feel like your anger is uncontrollable, or that your frustration is just below the surface and ready to erupt at the next car that cuts you off? You are not alone. Anger is a difficult emotion and few people know how to express it in appropriate ways.
Join us for a 10-week group that will help men and women explore the deeper roots of their frustration and identify what fuels their anger. This group will address how to express anger appropriately in the context of relationship. We will use The Anger Management Workbook as a guide as we look for healthy alternatives instead of rage or passive aggression.

This 10-week process group is for women whose desire is to grow in a deepening understanding of themselves and others by connecting honestly and openly with other women. The members of this group will process life together by sharing and responding to personal stories, exploring emotions surrounding day-to-day or ongoing situations, and focusing on informative topics.

Breaking free from the cycle of codependence involves more than identifying the problem, setting healthy boundaries, or working on self-esteem (though these are often included). Genuine freedom from codependence and its destructive pattern requires facing the ways that we have lived in the illusion of self-protection, acknowledging the reality of our grief and loss, and receiving God’s grace so that we can surrender to His love.
If you struggle with codependence, join us for a 10-week group that explores the ways codependent living sabotages joy. We will work toward the freedom of trusting, relinquishing control, and risking in relationships.

The Way of the Heart™
A 4-Week Course in Biblical Spirituality
Because our understanding of God impacts our healing and personal growth, Grace Clinic offers a four week biblical course entitled The Way of the Heart. The course covers the following topics:
The Image of God
The Bible says that in the beginning we were created in God’s image with an astounding capacity for deep and satisfying relationships. In this session, we will learn how living in relationship is part of our very nature as
image bearers of God.
Patterns of Sin and Addiction
The Bible reveals a striking parallel between the descent into idolatry and the descent into addiction. We will explore the ways that sin and addiction strip us of our humanity, and we will seek to understand God’s place in
facing the demons of addiction.
Redemption
This study will dispel the myth that we can overcome our problems by sheer effort. We will see how Jesus gives meaning to our suffering by inviting us to embrace our wounds as we turn to God.
The Cost of Healing
When the Apostle Paul describes his life, he is honest about emotions like anxiety, sadness, and pain. In fact, Paul will show us that the path to redemption doesn’t avoid suffering, but transforms it into something powerful
and beautiful.
The Way of the Heart will be led by Mike Winkler, M.A., M.Div on Tuesday nights from 7:30-9:00 p.m. at our Winter Park office. The course will begin the first Tuesday of every month and continue for four consecutive weeks.
Registration will be limited to eight participants each month. The course registration fee is $50. Current Grace Clinic clients will receive a 50% discount off the registration fee. To register, please call Cathy Buckland at 407-539-0047, Ext. 906 (cathy.buckland@graceclinic.org).
